FAQ

Where does the data come from?

MassCourtsPlus contains the full set of public digital case records published by The Massachusetts Trial Court, and includes about 20 years of historical records covering over 9M+ civil cases across every court department. Cases are refreshed nightly, and every result links back to the digital source record from the Trial Court.

Is this a substitute for official court records?

No. This is a research and analytics tool to enhance the existing public record. The Trial Court’s own public website warns users: “The information on this site is not the official record of the court. It may not include the most recent court activity.” For anything you need to file or certify, you should obtain physical records directly from the relevant court.

How do you handle privacy-restricted records?

We apply privacy protections for certain types of court cases. To remain compliant with Massachusetts CORI law, the site does not allow searching criminal court records by defendant name, nor do cases provided by this site include any criminal defendant names or personally identifiable information. The site also obscures names of individuals involved in Housing Court in order to protect their privacy.

What counts as one search?

One question you ask — whether through AI chat search or classic search — counts as one search. Browsing results, opening a case, sorting, and exporting what you already found are all free. You are never charged twice for looking at the same search result.

What is the difference between Team and Institutional?

The Team Plan puts your whole firm on one bill, with unlimited searches on every seat and one admin who manages who has access. It is priced per seat, below the individual Unlimited rate. The Institutional Plan offers add-ons for an additional charge to allow more direct access to the underlying data itself: bulk exports, a direct read-only SQL connection scoped to your license, and programmatic access for your own systems.

How many seats do we need?

At least two — a single seat is an individual subscription. From there you buy a seat for each person who needs access, and add or remove seats at any time from Settings. Every seat is the same: unlimited searches, no per-person cap to manage. Team is billed monthly, so there is no annual commitment to size up front. Adding a seat mid-month is charged only for the days remaining; removing someone frees their seat immediately, and your bill drops when you reduce the seat count.

Can we get the raw data for our own database?

Yes, you’ll need to contact us to upgrade to an Institutional Plan. We provision a read-only database role scoped to exactly the courts and date ranges your license covers, plus per-year and full-history export bundles.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

You can do so at any time, from Settings. If you’re on a monthly plan, your access will stop at the end of the current monthly period; for annual plans, access will stop at the end of the term you paid for.

Who is eligible for the nonprofit discount?

Organizations with active 501(c)(3) status, or the recognized equivalent. We verify this from your IRS determination letter before issuing a code.

Which plans does the nonprofit discount apply to?

Any individual or team plan. There is no separate nonprofit tier — the discount applies on top of standard pricing. Discounted individual plans are billed annually; Team is billed monthly like every other team.

Does the nonprofit discount expire?

No. It steps down after year one — 40% off to start, 25% off every year you stay subscribed — but it does not end.

How do I apply for the nonprofit discount?

Send us a message through the contact form, including your organization name and EIN. We will reply asking for your 501(c)(3) determination letter, then send a discount code you enter at checkout. Verification usually takes a few business days.
